IBM researchers recently announced a breakthrough in data storage: reducing the number of atoms it takes to store 1 bit of information from 1,000,000 to 12. To spread the word, we created a movie that can be seen only when you magnify it 100 million times. A movie made by moving atoms.&#38;nbsp;&#38;nbsp;

Maybe it’s time for a little phone-life balance
Forty years ago, Motorola invented the cell phone. Cut to today, and mobile has changed the way we eat, bank, shop, learn, consult our doctors, and connect to loved ones. Yet while the smartphone can enrich our lives and bring us closer to those who are far away, it sometimes separates us from those who are right in front of us. In fact, according to Morgan Stanley, more than 91% of us have a phone within arm’s reach 24 hours a day. So we launched the Phone-life Balance campaign, asking people around the world to examine their smartphone behavior.Take a look at the case study:




Below are a few of my favorite peices from this global campaign.&#38;nbsp;
To begin, we raised awareness around the issue by 

















by looking
at how real people on real vacations were spending their trips:
 
Then, we
created
hyper-realistic figures and placed them at key NYC locations, so everyone could
recognize themselves and rethink how they interact with their phone:



























We also measured people’s brain waves to show them how much they missed when staring at their screen.
Everything led to our&#38;nbsp;phone-life balance quiz, where people could check their smartphone behavior and learn how to
improve it.

IBM tracks all the data for every player at the open in real time. So for the US Open, we took IBM’s live tennis data
and created real-time video animations for Instagram with it. By graphically demonstrating IBM’s prowess with data, we helped launch @IBMSports on Instagram. Oh, and we got to live a few steps from Arthur Ashe Stadium for a week.&#38;nbsp;

		<description>Hello, my name is Watson
Watson is a supercomputer that understands natural language. It competed on Jeopardy! and beat the grand champions Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter. The event was televised in February 2011 and was watched by millions. We worked with Jeopardy! and IBM to create this integrated campaign, which explained the science behind the challenge and caught the public's imagination. IBM became a part of pop culture for the first time in years and Watson was named Webby Person of the Year. 

Watson's five-word Webby speech? "Person of the year, ironic."

We created an abstract piece of generative art that took cues from IBM's existing Smarter Planet ico  and made use of color, speed, and shape to convey ideas of data, intelligence, and even emotion. We worked with pioneering generative artist Joshua Davis to bring the idea to life.&#38;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt;br&#38;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;gt;

		<description>Ninjas vs Superbugs
Superbugs – or, drug resistant bacteria – are a growing threat. To fight them, IBM Research is developing a new weapon in its lab: Ninja Polymers.
 
Why are they called Ninjas? Well, according to the very IBM scientists that created them, Ninjas are the Chuck Norris of nanoparticles. And they kill deadly bacteria in an entirely new way – quickly, silently, and for good. 
We’d been telling the world about the amazing things IBM Research was working on, and since Ninja Polymers are too small to actually see in action, we told this story with 3D-printed puppets based on microscopic images, creating scientific personalities in the process.

		<description>Everyone deserves a fair chancePeople who have been incarcerated face an unemployment rate of over 27% - higher than what the U.S. experienced even during the Great Depression. Indeed believes everyone deserves a fair chance at a job, regardless of their criminal history.&#38;nbsp;To spread the word, we partnered with the Wall Street Journal to film a short documentary in New Orleans and write an article featuring successful cases of Fair Chance Hiring.



 At Indeed Futureworks, we filled the space with large-scale portraits of job seekers with a criminal record. Each photo led to a video featuring the story behind the portrait. &#38;nbsp;Click on a photo to watch the story.&#38;nbsp;
